Photovoltaic Solar Energy (Electric)
This is the term used to describe the process of converting the sun’s energy directly into electrical energy. The sun’s energy is collected using photovoltaic solar panels. The electrical energy is DC (direct current), similar to that found in vehicle power outlets or from batteries. In order to use this energy in most homes, it must be converted to AC (alternating current). AC power is the type of electrical energy supplied by the commercial power grid. The conversion from DC to AC can be done using an electronic device called an inverter.
